The Case for Buying an Existing Domain vs. Registering New
Registering a brand-new domain costs very little, but it limits you to whatever is still unclaimed — which for short, clean names is almost nothing.
Buying an existing domain from a marketplace or investor gives access to names that were registered years ago, often with better length, sound, or keyword relevance.
The premium you pay is effectively for someone else having already done the work of registering and holding the name through the years when it was cheap.
For a company betting on long-term brand equity, a stronger name is usually worth a one-time acquisition cost that is small relative to future marketing spend.
